Jamaat Holds Protest Rally and Mass Procession in Bhola

The Bhola district unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a protest rally and mass procession on Saturday (August 1), demanding the implementation of what it described as the “people’s mandate” through a referendum and the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her associates over the July killings.

The rally was held after Asr prayers at the Boarding Mosque premises in New Market, Bhola.

Following the rally, participants brought out a procession that passed through major roads in the town before ending in front of Hatkhola Mosque.

Leaders and activists from the Jamaat’s district, Sadar upazila and municipal units, along with supporters and people from different professions, participated in the program.

Speakers at the rally included Bhola district Jamaat Ameer and Central Majlis-e-Shura member Mohammad Zakir Hossain; district Naib Ameer and 11-party alliance-nominated parliamentary candidate for Bhola-1, Principal Maulana Nazrul Islam; district Secretary and Central Majlis-e-Shura member Maulana Harun-or-Rashid; Sadar Upazila Ameer Maulana Kamal Hossain; municipal Ameer Maulana Jamal Uddin; Naib Ameer Md. Ruhul Amin; and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Bhola city president Md. Hasnain Ahmed.

The organizers said the program was part of their broader campaign to press for accountability over the July violence and implementation of their political demands.
