Bangladesh is strategically positioning itself in the global artificial intelligence (AI) landscape by engaging with major international tech initiatives.

During a recent meeting US Special Presidential Envoy Sergio Gor and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman discussed Bangladesh’s growing potential in the IT sector. Prime Minister Rahman emphasized the country's strong interest in attracting IT investment. Recognizing this growth Gor suggested Bangladesh could become a future partner in "Pax Silica," a US-led initiative designed to build a secure, innovation-driven global silicon and AI supply chain. The initiative which recently convened allies like Japan the UK and Israel aims to protect foundational AI materials and reduce global technological dependencies.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Bangladesh's decision to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) as an observer. Headquartered in Shanghai, WAICO was established on July 16, 2026 by 29 founding nations, including China and Russia. This intergovernmental body focuses on bridging the global digital divide fostering international cooperation, and advancing fair safe AI regulations for humanity.

By exploring partnerships with the US-led Pax Silica and participating in WAICO Bangladesh highlights its commitment to advancing its domestic tech sector while actively participating in the evolving global AI governance framework.
