Police Security Alert Ruled Routine No Imminent Threat Detected

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has clarified that a recent nationwide security alert is a routine precautionary measure not a response to specific intelligence of an imminent attack.

DMP Additional Commissioner for the Detective Branch (DB) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam confirmed on Sunday that the directive aims to reinforce vigilance among law enforcement personnel amid circulating rumors. The alert follows a series of recent bomb scares across the capital.

Notably, on July 24 police recovered and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden in an umbrella at the Motijheel Metro Rail Station. Authorities state the device was placed to target the route of the Hindu community's Ulto Rath Yatra procession. The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit is leading the investigation into the incident alongside a parallel inquiry by the DB.

Other recent incidents—including suspicious bags discovered near Bangladesh Bank, Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations—were false alarms, with bomb disposal units confirming the absence of explosives.

In light of these events the Police Headquarters Operations Control Room issued an emergency message instructing field units to heighten security. Officers are directed to keep duty vehicles under strict surveillance park only in safe locations and increase patrols around police installations.

Assistant Inspector General (Media) AHM Shahadat Hossain emphasized that there is no cause for public alarm. Law enforcement simply remains actively vigilant to ensure public safety and secure police assets.
