Police Must Serve the People Not Political Parties: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has firmly stated that the police are not a partisan force meant to wield batons for political groups.

Speaking at the closing parade for the 27th BCS trainee assistant police superintendents at the Sharda Police Academy on Sunday he urged officers to become a humane professional and apolitical force to regain public trust.

Aligning with the government’s zero tolerance policy on corruption Ahmed warned against irregularities and abuses of power. He stressed that police must uphold the constitution and prioritize public safety over political interests.

Highlighting the challenges of the digital age the minister advised young officers to build technical expertise to combat rising cybercrimes and digital fraud. He also acknowledged the institutional damage inflicted by the previous "fascist government." Reminding officers of the new public expectations forged by the recent student-led mass uprising, he emphasized that service-seekers must never face harassment.

Sunday's event marked the completion of a six-month basic training for 58 officers. The Home Minister distributed awards to the cohort's top achievers: Dr. Md. Nurul Huda Bhuiyan won both Best Probationer and Best in Field Activities Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam secured the Best Academic Award and ABM Mamun was named Best Shooter.

Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir and Academy Principal GM Azizur Rahman attended the ceremony which was commanded by award-winner Dr. Bhuiyan.
