Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) successfully thwarted an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push 17 individuals into Bangladesh through the Hapania border in Naogaon’s Sapahar upazila on Friday morning.
At around 8:00 am, BSF members from the Pannachhara camp attempted to force six men, six women, and five children across border pillar 238/MP. Following immediate intelligence, a BGB patrol team from the Hapania Border Outpost (BOP) intervened, successfully halting the group at the zero line. The 17 individuals are currently stationed there.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, commander of the Naogaon 16 BGB Battalion, confirmed the incident. "We have intensified patrols in the area. No one will be allowed to enter Bangladesh illegally. The push-back process to return them to Indian territory is currently ongoing," he said.
This incident follows a coordinated attempt just a day earlier. On Thursday, the BSF attempted to push 129 people into Bangladesh across 11 different border points in Chapainawabganj, Netrokona, Sylhet, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Joypurhat, Khulna, and Jhenaidah.
In a press release issued Thursday, the BGB stated it is on "highest alert" to ensure border security. The paramilitary force emphasized that any push-in attempts violating international border management laws and bilateral agreements will be strictly resisted to protect the country's sovereignty.
