Three members of a British-Bangladeshi family including a mother and daughter died tragically after being swept out to sea at a UK beach.
The victims were identified as Selina Rahman 42 her 15-year-old daughter Samia Rahman, and her 9-year-old nephew Musa Ahmed. Selina was the wife of UK Jubo Dal Vice-President Sheikh Mansur Rahman who is originally from Mollargaon Union in Sylhet’s South Surma upazila.
According to Mansur’s brother Sheikh Mahfuzur Rahman Munna, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at West Mersea Beach in Essex. A sudden strong tide swept nine-year-old Musa into the water. In a desperate attempt to save him both Selina and Samia were also pulled under by the powerful current.
Emergency services—including local police lifeboat crews, a Coastguard helicopter, and an air ambulance—immediately launched a rescue operation. Tragically despite their efforts all three were declared dead.
Relatives stated they have not yet decided whether the victims’ bodies will be repatriated to Bangladesh for burial.
