The government is taking steps to transform waste in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) area into valuable resources, including electricity, bio-fertilizer and gas.
State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam shared this development while inspecting the cleanup and beautification progress at the Rajendrapur garbage dump on Friday afternoon. He noted that discussions are currently underway with technical partners in China and Finland to introduce advanced waste-to-energy management systems.
The drive to clean up the Rajendrapur dump, located along the busy Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, follows direct instructions from the Prime Minister. According to the State Minister, the Prime Minister noticed the severe stench causing public suffering while traveling to a rally in Mymensingh and immediately ordered the Local Government ministry to resolve the issue.
"The eyes of the Prime Minister are everywhere," Alam remarked, praising her active oversight. "She identifies issues and immediately instructs the relevant ministries to take action. That is how a country improves under a people-friendly leader."
To permanently alleviate the suffering of locals and commuters, a new dumping station is being constructed on land owned by the GCC. Addressing concerns from journalists about the new facility’s proximity to the Bhawal National Park, the State Minister assured that the implementation of advanced technology would ensure the area's biodiversity remains unharmed.
Gazipur-2 MP M Munanjurul Roni, GCC Administrator Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar, and other government officials were present during the inspection.
Furthermore, the State Minister issued a reminder regarding upcoming festival preparations, stating that the Prime Minister has ordered all city corporations and municipalities nationwide to clear Eid-related waste strictly within 12 hours.
