Dhaka University Assistant Proctor Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan Monami has resigned following the resignation of Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed.
She confirmed the decision in a Facebook post around 11am on Monday (May 11).
In the post, Shehreen wrote, “I have officially resigned from the post of Assistant Proctor of Dhaka University.”
She said that during her seven years in teaching at Bangladesh University of Professionals, Jagannath University and Dhaka University, she had never been interested in taking administrative responsibilities.
However, she accepted the role after receiving a call from then-Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed on August 28, 2024.
Describing her reaction at the time, she wrote that she felt surprised to be entrusted with such a major responsibility despite being a junior teacher.
She also said she accepted the responsibility with the hope of contributing to the country and her alma mater during what she described as “a new Bangladesh with many hopes and dreams.”
Praising former Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, Shehreen said she learned from him how to remain patient, handle difficult situations calmly and maintain self-respect while performing official duties.
She wrote that the proctorial team tried to ensure students’ safety with “forgiveness and compassion.”
Reflecting on her tenure, Shehreen said she did not want to judge how successful she had been in the role, but described the experience as “incredible” under “the leadership of an extraordinary person” and alongside “a wonderful team.”
Referring to the July movement and its aftermath, she said the situation faced by the university administration during that period was unprecedented.
At the end of the post, she congratulated the newly appointed proctor and wished the new team success in carrying out their responsibilities.
