


A young man was arrested with ganja during a joint anti-drug operation conducted by the Upazila Administration and the Department of Narcotics Control in Paikgachha, Khulna. Later, a mobile court sentenced him to jail and fined him.
The arrested person is Shakib Gazi, 21, son of Md. Shafiqul Gazi, a resident of Ward No. 7 of Paikgachha.
According to official sources, the operation was carried out around 11:00 am on Monday at a house near Shibsa Ghat in the municipality, based on secret information. The raid was jointly conducted by the Upazila Administration and the Khulna Divisional Detective Office of the Department of Narcotics Control.
During the operation, officials recovered Tk 6,200, which they said was earned from selling ganja. The money was later returned to the accused’s mother in the presence of local residents. The seized ganja was destroyed on-site by burning.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Fazle Rabbi conducted the mobile court. Under Section 42(1) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, Shakib Gazi was sentenced to one month in jail and fined Tk 500.
SI Md. Safiar Rahman and other members of the Khulna Divisional Narcotics Control Department were present during the operation.
Authorities said anti-drug drives will continue across the upazila. Sources also confirmed that several other locations were raided during the day-long operation.
