Police arrested a mother and son with 124 Yaba pills during an anti-drug raid at Banka Bazar in Paikgachha, Khulna, on Friday evening.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Indadul Haque, in-charge of the Raruli Police Camp, searched Abdul Latif Gazi’s grocery shop and recovered the illegal narcotics.
The arrestees were identified as Saleha Akhter, 48, and her son Jewel, 25. Police reported that the suspects originally hail from Kanaidi village in Tala Upazila of Satkhira district. Both were taken into custody directly from the scene.
Local residents have expressed growing concern over the impact of local drug networks on youth and students, demanding that the administration maintain regular drives against narcotics dealers in the area.
Authorities confirmed that legal action is currently underway against the detainees under the Narcotics Control Act.
