The state must act as a catalyst rather than a barrier in helping girls achieve their aspirations, stated Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation.
Speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by the Bangladesh Police Women’s Welfare Association (PUNAK) at Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium on Monday (May 11), she emphasized the need for a supportive state framework.
“Instead of creating obstacles, the state system must empower every girl to pursue the future she envisions for herself,” Dr. Rahman said.
Highlighting the importance of collective effort, she noted that PUNAK’s social service initiatives are foundational to building a healthy and humane society. She remarked that if individuals contribute sincerely from their respective positions, creating a desirable society is entirely possible.
Dr. Rahman further stressed that women’s involvement in health and rural development is crucial for social progress. She called for a system that ensures the safety and holistic development of girls, paving the way for their success.
Addressing economic empowerment, she suggested that providing training, development, and marketing support to women entrepreneurs in the SME and cottage industry sectors would lead to self-reliance. This, she noted, would enhance family well-being, improve children's education, and help alleviate poverty across the country.
