The special guest was Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Shamim Ahsan.
The special discussant was Jugantor Associate Editor Emdadul Haque and Ittefaq Politics and Elections Editor Md. Saidur Rahman. The event was addressed by Pabna Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar. Pabna University Press Club President Md. Zahidul Islam presided over the event. Former President of the Press Club Abdullah Al Mamun, Proctor, Student Advisor, Press Club members, teachers, students, officials and employees were also present.
Poet Abdul Hai Sikder said, the media is the school of the people. 'Newspapers connect people's thoughts. Newspapers are the mirror of society. Our rulers are afraid of looking at the mirror. The three pillars of a state are law, judiciary and executive. The fourth pillar of the state is the newspaper. A journalist has to know everything; without that, it is not possible to be a good journalist. Because he has to work in all the bits. The media is the school of the people. A journalist has to know how to call white white and black black. In the last 17 years, a flattering class was created in the media. Many journalists have been tortured due to objective journalism. The media was self-censored. After the mass uprising, the media is again creating a place of trust and confidence among the people. Journalists are able to work much more freely. In the past 17 years, the media was as flattering as during the British era. We will be able to run the country fairly and beautifully through an election using the spirit of the mass uprising.’
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. SM Abdul-Awal said, ‘Knowledge is power’. The more knowledge one has, the more enlightened he will be. We all have to work together for our independence, sovereignty and self-respect. After joining here, we are working to reach a position for the university. We have to identify the problems and work. We have a lot of complexity among us, we always see our own interests as big; that is why we are backward ethnically. The best means to destroy a nation is education. Education has been neglected in the last 17 years. We have to have good thoughts and take responsibility; then the country will be run well. We do not want to see the Bangladesh of the past; we want to see a beautiful Bangladesh of the future. We are working systematically. We are trying to highlight the heritage of Pabna through the university. He also said, honest people are not afraid to look in the mirror. We want to build a tolerant and equal Bangladesh with the cooperation of everyone.’
Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Shamim Ahsan said, ‘If it were not for the strong role of journalists in the July Uprising, the achievement would have been more difficult. We have to present accurate information about history. We have to be role models.
The guests unveiled the cover of the ‘Biplober Dinlipi’ souvenir published by the Press Club. The program was hosted by Press Club General Secretary Nazmul Huda Shithil.
