BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has publicly thanked the Election Commission (EC) for a significant move that grants expatriate Bangladeshis the opportunity to cast their votes in the upcoming national election. He made these remarks as the chief guest during a virtual event inaugurating the online payment system for party membership renewal and new enrollment from abroad.
Rahman highlighted that the right to vote has been a long-standing demand from the expatriate community. He stated that the EC's decision fulfills a significant part of this hope, enabling an estimated 5 million expatriates from various countries to participate in the election for the first time.
Expressing his party's gratitude, the Acting Chairman offered sincere congratulations and commendation to the Election Commission. He views this new voting opportunity as a "respectful recognition of the rights and contributions" of expatriate Bangladeshis. While acknowledging that the initial process might seem "a bit complicated," due to it being the first time, Rahman assured the audience that if the BNP comes to power, the party would take steps to "simplify the system."
The event, held at the La Vita Banquet Hall at the Lakeshore Hotel in Gulshan, was chaired by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Several BNP Standing Committee members and officials, including Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, were also speakers.
