The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested a woman and seized 38 kg of marijuana during a raid in Kalia upazila on Monday afternoon.
The arrestee, identified as 54-year-old Ruchia Begum, is the widow of the late Tariqul Sardar. She was apprehended at her home in Pakhimara Madhyapara village under the Naragati police station area.
Acting on a tip-off, a DNC team led by Deputy Director Golok Majumder conducted the operation at approximately 12:30 PM. During a search of the premises, officers discovered the marijuana packed in a bag hidden beneath a bed.
The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately Tk 15.20 lakh.
During initial interrogation, Ruchia Begum named an associate, Bipul Sardar (39), who allegedly fled the scene after sensing the arrival of law enforcement. Authorities are currently conducting drives to apprehend him.
"The arrested woman has been handed over to Naragati Police Station," said Deputy Director Golok Majumder. "A case has been filed against her and the absconding suspect under the Narcotics Control Act."
