The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested Abul Kalam Azad, the Project Implementation Officer (PIO) of Shahjadpur Upazila, Sirajganj, in connection with four corruption cases.
A joint team of the ACC and local police apprehended Azad from the Gopalpur area of Pabna city on Sunday night.
According to ACC sources, the cases involve allegations of embezzling development funds, forging master rolls, and misappropriating government resources during his tenure in Shahjadpur. Following a lengthy investigation, a warrant was issued after investigators secured evidence of financial irregularities.
The ACC statement reveals that Azad concealed assets worth Tk 9,42,240 in his official declaration. Furthermore, the commission found primary evidence of him possessing illegal assets totaling Tk 1,32,46,798—an amount significantly inconsistent with his known legal income.
Sadhan Chandra Sutradhar, Assistant Director of the ACC Pabna Integrated District Office and plaintiff in the cases, stated that the accused exploited his official position to accumulate this wealth.
Azad was produced before a Pabna court through the Sadar Police Station on Monday afternoon. The court subsequently ordered him to be sent to jail.
