Khulna-6 MP Alhaj Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on Monday inspected the proposed sites of two development projects in Paikgachha upazila.
In the afternoon, he visited a one-acre site in Shibbati mouza, located west of Paikgachha-Koyra Road near the TTC, to assess its suitability for a new fire service station.
He then inspected a two-acre site in Samrankhali mouza, south of Katakhali Road near Shibbati Bridge, where a power grid substation is planned at an estimated cost of Tk 5 billion.
Among those present were Upazila Nirbahi Officer Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Fazle Rabbi, Palli Bidyut Samity DGM Anjan Kumar Sarkar, Upazila Agriculture Officer Ekramul Hossain, Senior Fisheries Officer Saikat Mallik, and local leaders.
After the visit, MP Azad said the Paikgachha-Koyra area faces frequent power disruptions due to its distance—around 100 km—from major supply sources. Faults or natural disasters often delay restoration.
He said the planned grid substation would ensure stable electricity supply and reduce outages in the future.
The MP also said a fire service station would be established in Paikgachha, similar to Koyra. He added that the Home Minister has assured that fire stations will be set up in 29 upazilas that currently lack such facilities.
He urged officials to expedite land-related procedures and move the projects forward.
