


Police in Kurigram arrested 20 people in the last 24 hours during a special drive targeting drugs, gambling, and other crimes.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the district police on Monday (May 4, 2026).
According to the release, the began on Sunday night (May 3) across multiple upazilas. Among those arrested, 18 were alleged drug dealers held with various narcotics.
In Rajarhat upazila, three people were detained with 17 Tapendal tablets, 50 grams of cannabis, and 2 Yaba pills. In Kurigram Sadar, seven suspects were arrested with 1.30 grams of heroin.
In Phulbari, police detained one person with 15 Tapendal tablets and 250 grams of cannabis, while one person in Ulipur was arrested with 12 Yaba pills. In Bhurungamari, four individuals were held with 119 Yaba pills.
Additionally, one person each was arrested in Rajibpur and Roumari with 30 and 14 Yaba pills respectively.
In total, police seized 117 Yaba pills, 32 Tapendal tablets, 1.30 grams of heroin, and quantities of cannabis during the drive. Nine cases have been filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Separately, two individuals were arrested while gambling in Rajarhat. A case has been filed against them under the Gambling Act, and they have been sent to court.
Kurigram District Police Media Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police (Ulipur Circle), Md. Ashraful Alam (PPM), said the drive is being conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Khandaker Fazle Rabbi (PPM).
He added that such operations will continue regularly to curb drugs and gambling in the district.
