A case has been filed against a local furniture businessman following the rape of an 11-year-old disabled child at the Alamunsi intersection in Lohagara Municipality. The accused, Akhtar Khan, fled the area immediately after the incident became public.
The incident occurred last Saturday (May 2) at Khan’s furniture shop. According to the victim's family and local sources, the child—a resident of the Maitkumara shelter project—was seeking refuge from the rain at the shop. The accused allegedly lured the girl and assaulted her, offering 500 Taka to keep her silent.
The matter came to light on Sunday, prompting locals to notify the authorities. On Monday morning, the victim's father, a day laborer, formally filed a case at the Lohagara Police Station.
"I live in a government shelter and work as a laborer," the father told reporters. "I demand exemplary punishment for the man who destroyed my daughter's life."
Police visited the scene and took the victim into custody for initial questioning. Inspector (Investigation) Ajit Kumar Roy confirmed that the child has been sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for a formal medical examination.
"A case has been registered, and we are conducting raids to apprehend the accused, who is currently in hiding," Inspector Roy stated.
