A 30-year-old construction worker was stabbed to death in Narail’s Lohagara upazila on Saturday night, allegedly by a man who owed him money.
The victim, Alinur Fakir, was a resident of Kumardanga village in Itna Union.
According to his brother, Aminur Fakir, the accused, Rajib Sheikh, borrowed Tk 18,000 from Alinur during Ramadan and had repeatedly delayed repayment. On Saturday night at around 9:30 pm, Rajib and his family members reportedly summoned Alinur and his brother to the local Kumardanga Government Primary School grounds under the pretext of settling the debt.
Instead of paying the money, the accused suddenly became aggressive. During the ambush, Rajib allegedly stabbed Alinur in the stomach, leaving him critically injured. Locals and family members rushed him to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Lohagara Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Ajit Kumar Roy confirmed the incident. He stated that officers immediately secured the crime scene and sent the victim's body to Narail District Hospital for an autopsy.
Police have launched an operation to apprehend those involved in the killing.
