Bangladesh Open University Bids Emotional Farewell to Joint Director Rashidul Gani

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) hosted an emotional farewell reception for Rashidul Gani, Joint Director of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Languages, on Monday.

After more than three decades of dedicated service, Mr. Gani’s final working day is Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The event, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference lounge, was chaired by Dean Professor Tanvir Ahsan. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan attended as the chief guest, joined by Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Dr. Dil Rawshan Jinnat Ara Nazneen and Professor Saeed Ferdous, and Acting Registrar T. M. Ahmed Hussain.

In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rahman Khan praised Mr. Gani as a "shining example of honesty and hard work." He noted that earning the collective respect of colleagues after 30 years of service is a rare and significant achievement.

"His dedication and human qualities will be remembered by this institution for years to come," the Vice-Chancellor remarked, while encouraging Mr. Gani to stay connected with the university during his retirement.

Reflecting on his long career, an emotional Rashidul Gani thanked his colleagues for their unwavering support and sought prayers for his family's future. To honor his contributions, the Vice-Chancellor presented him with a commemorative plaque and floral tributes on behalf of the school.

The ceremony concluded with moving tributes from faculty and staff, who described the departure as the loss of a beloved mentor and a pillar of the university community.
