A mobile court in Boalmari, Faridpur, evicted hundreds of illegal makeshift shops on Thursday to clear footpaths and ease public movement.
The drive was conducted following government directives to address long-standing public suffering caused by road encroachments.
The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Shibbir Ahmed, took place between 4:45 PM and 8:00 PM. Authorities cleared both sides of the road stretching from the Station Road market area to the main intersection, as well as the area from Wapda intersection to the market.
During the drive, the mobile court fined eight business establishments a total of Tk 30,000 for obstructing pedestrian walkways. In addition to the fines, hundreds of temporary shacks and stalls built on the sidewalks were dismantled and removed.
Magistrate Shibbir Ahmed stated that the drive was essential for the public interest. "We conducted this eviction because these illegal structures have been causing significant distress to pedestrians for a long time. Our efforts to keep the city's footpaths free from encroachment will continue," he added.
