Two BNP and Juba Dal leaders were killed in a motorcycle-vehicle collision in front of Bappi Villa on the east side of BRAC intersection in Jhalakathi town.
The deceased were Jahangir Hossain Badal, former convener of Mathbaria Municipality Jubo Dal and senior joint convener of Upazila Jubo Dal, and Mizan Khan Manju, joint general secretary of Ward No. 2 of Mathbaria Municipality BNP.
The accident occurred on Thursday around 2:30 pm on the way back to Mathbaria from Barisal on a motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses said that a speeding bus hit the motorcycle while overtaking and it lost control. At that time, Mizan Khan Manju was crushed under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot. Badal was rescued and taken to the hospital in serious condition, where he also died during treatment.
The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. The bodies of the deceased are being handed over to their families. The police are working to identify the bus that met with the accident.
