The newly appointed Police Superintendent (SP) of Faridpur, Md. Nazrul Islam (PPM), held an interaction meeting with local journalists on Wednesday (December 10) at his office, outlining his priorities for the district, particularly concerning the upcoming national elections and crime control.
SP Nazrul Islam stated that the police's responsibility is to ensure free, fair, and festive elections, especially in the Faridpur-4 constituency, in line with government instructions. He emphasized the police will work closely with the district administration and other law enforcement agencies. He suggested the recent administration changes are aimed at ensuring the polls are conducted peacefully.
The SP declared "zero tolerance" for drugs and pledged to collaborate with other members in the district to make police stations drug-free.
Recognizing the rise of subcultures and cyber threats, he announced that the district's DB cyber team will focus on combating juvenile delinquency, cybercrime, and online harassment, including attacks on journalists via fake Facebook pages and cyberbullying against women.
To improve public service, he mentioned that GDs (General Diaries) can now be filed online using a mobile or computer, while staff will assist the elderly who cannot use the online system. He also vowed to bring bribery and corruption in police stations to zero and ensure that ordinary citizens and journalists (due to misreporting) are not harassed. He intends to immediately instruct the OCs of all 9 police stations on these issues.
During the exchange, journalists raised several local issues, including traffic congestion, unregistered motorcycles, speeding easy bikes, illegal sidewalk occupation, drug terrorism, and extortion. The meeting saw the participation of key figures, including Faridpur Press Club President Kabirul Islam Siddiqui and General Secretary Mahbub Hossain, alongside numerous other journalists from both print and electronic media.
