Two people died and at least 35 others were injured after a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup truck on the Faridpur-Barisal highway on Monday morning.
The accident occurred around 9:00 AM in the Bablatla area of Bhanga Upazila. Impact from the collision caused the passenger bus to veer off the road and plunge into a 40-foot deep ditch.
One victim, identified as Jahangir Molla (40), a pickup passenger from Kaidubi Sadardi village, died at the scene. Another victim, Alamgir Sheikh (40), succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Dhaka for emergency treatment.
Local residents, Bhanga Fire Service, and Highway Police conducted a joint rescue operation. The 35 injured passengers were initially rushed to Bhanga Hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries—which include fractures and head trauma—several victims were later transferred to Faridpur and Dhaka Medical College Hospitals via government and private ambulances.
According to SI Mamun of Bhanga Highway Police Station, the "Shah Farid" transport bus was heading toward Madaripur when it collided with a goods-laden pickup coming from Tekerhat.
Bhanga Fire Service Station Manager Abu Zafar confirmed that units arrived shortly after 9:00 AM to extricate passengers from the overturned bus in the ditch.
