Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed departed Dhaka early Sunday for New York to attend the 5th United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS V) at UN Headquarters.
Leading a five-member delegation that includes Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir, the Minister left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport via an Emirates flight at 1:40 AM. The summit, scheduled for July 7–8, serves as a global platform for police leaders to address critical issues in UN policing and peacekeeping.
This year's agenda features three primary plenary sessions: a vision for the future of UN policing, the integration of new technologies, and methods to enhance international cooperation against transitional challenges.
Beyond the main sessions, Minister Ahmed is scheduled for high-level bilateral meetings with key UN officials, including Under-Secretaries-General Atul Khare (Operational Support), Jean-Pierre Lacroix (Peace Operations), and Rosemary A. DiCarlo (Political and Peacebuilding Affairs). He will also meet with counterparts from various nations to discuss Bangladesh's substantial contributions to peacekeeping, the capacity building of the Bangladesh Police, and the deployment of specialized units. The Home Minister is expected to return to Dhaka on July 12
