


Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury, Vice President of PHP Family, has been elected unopposed as the President of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA) for the 2026 term. Md. Selim Uddin was elected Senior Vice President.
The election took place on Saturday, July 4, at the Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View. Out of 85 registered voters, 71 cast their ballots. Election Board Chairman Md. Aftab Uddin Chowdhury announced the results, praising the peaceful and festive voting environment.
Md. Nur Uddin and Gazi Mukarram Ali Chowdhury secured the two Vice President positions. Seven executive members were also elected from a pool of nine candidates: Md. Zahidul Haque, Md. Taslim Uddin, SM Nurunnabi, Md. Ferdous Wahid, Ubaida Asadi, Hossainul Arefin, and AKM Saifullah Saeed.
Industry leaders present at the event emphasized the sector's critical role in Bangladesh's economy. PHP Family Chairman Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury noted that shipbreaking is the primary source of raw iron for the country's steel mills, urging the new leadership to prioritize modernization and maintain affordable domestic iron supplies.
Highlighting a shift toward sustainability, SN Corporation and Eastern Bank PLC Chairman Shawkat Ali Chowdhury stated that many facilities are currently being converted into environmentally friendly green shipyards. He added that the association plans to present strategic development proposals to the government.
In his immediate reaction, newly elected President Mohsin Chowdhury reaffirmed his commitment to collaborative growth. "This industry has huge potential. We need the government's policy support to fully utilize it," he stated.
