Police arrested six members of an inter-district robbery gang, including a goldsmith, and recovered looted gold following a three-day joint operation across Narail, Gopalganj, and Khulna districts.
According to a Narail District Police press release issued on Sunday, the arrests were made in connection with a June 8 armed robbery in Pakhimara village. At around 2:00 a.m., a group of robbers broke into the home of Salah Uddin Khan. Holding him hostage at gunpoint, they tied his hands, threatened his life, and looted cash and gold ornaments.
Following a case filed by Khan, a joint task force from the District Detective Branch (DB), CCIC, and Naragati Police launched an investigation. Between July 2 and 4, police arrested five suspected robbers and one goldsmith accused of purchasing the stolen goods. Based on their confessions, authorities recovered the looted gold, which the suspects had already melted down.
The arrested individuals were identified as Zakir Molla (48) and Din Islam Molla (42) from Khulna’s Terkhada; Zakir Hossain Talukder (54), Parvez Mridha (36), and Mofiz Khan (38) from Narail; and goldsmith Sarjit Kar (45) from Rupsha, Khulna.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to the Pakhimara robbery. Police confirmed the gang members operated under various aliases and face multiple prior charges for theft and robbery across Narail, Khulna, Gopalganj, and Bagerhat.
