In the last 24 hours, Detective Branch (DB) police arrested seven suspected drug peddlers, including a woman, in separate raids across Bhanga, Kotwali and Nagarkanda areas in Faridpur.
Police seized ganja, yaba tablets and foreign liquor during the operations. Authorities say the arrests are part of an ongoing effort to dismantle organised drug networks active in the district.
According to DB sources, multiple teams led by sub-inspectors conducted the drives under the supervision of district DB officer-in-charge Syed Md. Alamgir Hossain.
On Sunday (April 12), Rina Begum, 45, was arrested in the Brahmanpara area of Pulia under Bhanga police station with 8.2 kg of ganja, following a tip-off.
Earlier on Saturday, three individuals — Juton, 31, Zubair Sheikh, 20, and Sathi Begum, 55 — were detained in South Alipur under Kotwali police station. Police recovered 48 yaba tablets and Tk 61,450, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
In a separate raid in Kunjungar area under Nagarkanda police station, Mohsin Sheikh Babu, 30, was arrested with 21 yaba tablets. Another 90 tablets were recovered from the house of his associate Sheikh Zafar, who remains absconding.
Meanwhile, in Manikdaha Kalibari area under Bhanga police station, two more suspects — Shimul Chakraborty Mona, 41, and Wasim Ghosh, 39 — were arrested on Sunday. Police recovered two bottles of foreign liquor (1,500 ml) and 10 yaba tablets from them.
DB OC Syed Md. Alamgir Hossain said regular anti-drug operations are underway across Faridpur.
“We are conducting continuous drives based on intelligence to bring drug dealers under the law. An organised network has been active for a long time, and we are determined to dismantle it. No one involved in drugs will be spared,” he said.
Police said cases have been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act, and they are being sent to court.
