Bicycles have been distributed among village police members in Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur with the aim of maintaining law and order, curbing crime and increasing the speed of official work in rural areas.
These bicycles were officially handed over at a simple ceremony organized at the Upazila Parishad premises on Monday (December 8) afternoon.
According to the Upazila administration sources, these bicycles were arranged for the village police members of 7 unions of the upazila with the special allocated funds of the Ministry of Local Government. One bicycle was allocated for each of the 50 village police officers working at the field level. However, since two members were absent due to unavoidable reasons at the distribution ceremony, new bicycles were handed over to the 48 village police officers present. It is known that the bicycles of the remaining two will be handed over later.
Kaliganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) ATM Kamrul Islam, who was present as the chief guest at the ceremony, handed over the bicycles to the village police officers. At this time, he highlighted the importance of the work of the village police force members and their contribution to the grassroots.
In his speech, UNO ATM Kamrul Islam said, “Village police are the vigilant guards of the village. They work as the eyes and ears of the local administration. They work tirelessly day and night to maintain the balance of the overall law and order situation in the village.”
He also said, “The roads in the remote areas of our village are inaccessible in many cases. It is difficult and time-consuming for them to walk from one end to the other to perform their duties or to convey any news quickly. Considering this reality, the Ministry of Local Government has allocated bicycles to facilitate their work. This bicycle will play a very important role in their transportation and this will greatly increase their enthusiasm and speed of work.”
The village police members present expressed their excitement after receiving the bicycles. They said that this vehicle will be of great help in their daily patrolling and official work of the Union Parishad. Local representatives and the people present appreciated the government's initiative.
