An endangered vulture was successfully rescued in the Paschim Dhaniram Sarkar Para area of Phulbari, Kurigram district. The huge bird, believed to have been weakened by the extreme cold, was spotted lying under a bamboo grove by locals on Thursday (December 4) afternoon.
Local eyewitness Jahangir Rahman first saw the vulture and, noting its inability to fly due to weakness, was able to catch it easily. News of the discovery quickly spread, drawing a crowd of locals, including children and teenagers, eager to see the rare bird. Many took photos and shared them on social media. The bird was subsequently moved to safety.
Upon hearing the news, officials from the local administration and the livestock department arrived at the scene. The vulture was given first aid and then transported to the Upazila Livestock Department for care.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mocha: Dilara Akter confirmed that the rescued endangered vulture was handed over to the Forest Department by the livestock officer after receiving the necessary treatment.
Locals speculate that the endangered vulture likely flew from the Himalayan region of India in search of food due to the severity of the winter, eventually seeking shelter in Phulbari.
