Two Killed as Truck Hits Van in Phulbari

A van driver and a factory worker were killed Wednesday morning after a truck collided with their vehicle on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway. The accident occurred around 8:00 AM in the Baliharpur area of Aladipur Union.

The deceased have been identified as Ainul Sarkar (53), a van driver from Shibnagar Union, and Ruma Khatun (22), a worker at Pran Bangamillers in Rangamati. Another passenger, Yasmin Akhter (45), sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.

According to police and local witnesses, the two women were commuting to work in the van when a feed-carrying truck (Dhaka Metro-T 20-31-93) lost control and struck them from the opposite direction. Both Ainul and Ruma died on the spot.

The truck driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately following the collision. Phulbari Police have since recovered the bodies and seized the vehicle.

Abdul Latib Shah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station, confirmed that a post-mortem report has been prepared and the bodies are being handed over to their respective families. A case is being filed under the Road Transport Act.
