A major controversy has erupted in Kamthana village, Lohagara Upazila, Narail, where villagers and victim families are furious over the filing of a "false and harassing" case.
They allege that Nayan Sheikh, a person described as a drug dealer and accused in multiple cases from the neighboring Mochra area, filed the lawsuit to obscure his own misconduct.
The core incident reportedly occurred in Mochra village , Nayan Sheikh, son of Jalil Sheikh, allegedly proposed immoral acts to the wife of his nephew, Abdullah Sheikh. In reaction to the proposal, the nephew, Abdullah Sheikh, allegedly hacked and seriously injured his uncle, Nayan Sheikh.
To cover up the injury caused by his nephew, Nayan Sheikh allegedly filed a false and harassing case (Case No. 267/25, registered by Lohagara Police Station on December 1) with the Narail Administrative Court. The complaint excluded the name of the actual assailant, Abdullah Sheikh (his nephew). Instead, it named five people, including four innocent individuals from the neighboring Kamthana village: Ashikur Rahman Sanjar, Shariful Munshi, Sajid Munshi, and Jamal Sheikh, as well as Shibli Noman Mahmudkop from Narail Sadar Upazila.
Following the case filing, police arrested Ashikur Rahman Sanjar from Lohagara Bazar and sent him to jail. Even the named witness in the case, Al Amin Sheikh, complained to the media that he did not know anything about the attack on Nayan. Rabiul Islam, the father of the arrested accused (Ashikur Rahman Sanjar) and a businessman from Kamthana, protested the case. He noted his family has moved due to a lack of security and recounted a prior incident about 10 months ago where Nayan and his cousin allegedly hacked him, seriously injuring him and stealing Tk.2 lakh. Rabiul Islam had filed a case against Nayan in that incident (Case No. 08, Date: 12/02/2025). He believes the current false case is retaliation.
Kamthana UP member Ratan Sheikh strongly protested the inclusion of four innocent people from his village in a dispute that took place in Mochra and demanded exemplary punishment for the real culprits. The victim's family and villagers are demanding justice through a proper investigation to uncover the true incident.
Lohagara Police Station Inspector Investigation, Ajit Kumar Roy, assured that the police will investigate the case incident, charge the real culprits, and submit a final report to the court.
