The family members and well-wishers of the Jubo Dal leader have formed a human chain to protest against the deliberate harassment and propaganda against Shibli Sadiq, the joint convener of the Upazila Jubo Dal, over the soil cutting at the Phulbari cemetery in Dinajpur.
The human chain was held at the local Nimtala intersection on Thursday afternoon. In the human chain, Shibli Sadiq said that he and his elder brother Sohel Ahmed bought a land next to the Eidgah ground adjacent to the Phulbari BGB camp. He was harassed while filling the land with soil.
He said that when some rubbish and soil fell on the Eidgah ground during the filling, he started cleaning it with an excavator. At that time, Roni, the general secretary of the Eidgah ground, came to the spot and got into an argument with him over a trivial matter and harassed him.
At one stage, Roni and Rubel of the Eidgah Committee incited the locals that Shibli Sadiq was digging the soil of the Eidgah ground. Angered by this, the locals blocked the Dinajpur Highway in the BGB Camp-Dangapara area. Later, the blockade was lifted with the intervention of law enforcement and the upazila administration.
Shibli Sadiq alleged that since the incident, Roni and Mamun of the Eidgah Committee have been regularly spreading misinformation against him. He also said, “My brother and I purchased 25 acres of land at a fair price. Roni tried to buy this land; but the seller did not give it to him because he offered a low price. Even before this, many people wanted to buy the land, but Roni prevented them in various ways. Ever since I bought the land, Roni has been conspiring against me.”
He alleged that Roni has concealed the real information and made journalists publish news with false information, which has tarnished his political image. Shibli Sadiq said, “Since there is an Eidgah ground next to my land, I have a plan to make it more beautiful and suitable. After filling the land, I have also planned to mark the boundaries of the Eidgah ground and build a boundary wall.”
Shibli Sadiq’s political colleagues, including Upazila Volunteer Party member secretary Anwarul Haque, also spoke at the human chain.
