Local BNP supporters in Bheramara, Kushtia, have called for Faria Akhter to be appointed a member of parliament in a reserved women’s seat.
Party activists said they have requested Tarique Rahman to consider Faria Akhter for the reserved women’s seat in the 13th National Parliament.
Faria Akhter is the daughter of late Yasin Ali, who served as president of Bheramara Upazila BNP, vice-president of the district BNP and was elected multiple times as chairman of Bahirchar Union Parishad.
Currently serving as co-secretary for agricultural affairs in the central executive committee of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, Faria Akhter is described by party colleagues as a disciplined and dedicated organiser. Supporters say she remained active throughout BNP’s movements over the past 17 years and regularly took part in protests during difficult political periods.
They also noted her earlier role as a student leader at University of Rajshahi, where she participated in anti-autocracy movements during the Ershad era.
Local leaders believe that if appointed as a reserved women MP for the greater Kushtia region, Faria Akhter would strengthen party organisation and represent grassroots interests effectively. These views, they said, reflect the expectations of BNP supporters in the area.
