National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam stated today that the party will only move towards elections after the swift implementation of the July Charter.
Speaking at a discussion marking the launch of the University Teachers' Forum (UTF) at Bangla Academy, Nahid emphasized that the charter permits no 'note of dissent,' asserting, "What has been agreed upon through consensus will remain, the rest will be decided by the people." Nahid urged the Chief Adviser's intervention to immediately implement the July Charter.
Reiterating an earlier stance, Nahid said the order for the July Charter must be issued by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and that holding the referendum remains the party's priority before the election.
The NCP chief expressed optimism that the forthcoming elections would be held under the July Charter's legal framework. He articulated a vision for the next parliament and reform council to be composed of youth, teachers, women, minorities, and professionals from all walks of life, fulfilling the charter's spirit.
Nahid stressed that all participants in the July uprising should have representation in the upcoming parliament, which, in turn, would form a reform council tasked with working on a new constitution. He vowed that the NCP would ensure teachers' participation in this process. Nahid praised the contribution of teachers in the July uprising, linking past issues like politically motivated promotions to the persistence of "fascist structures." He concluded that fascism cannot be eradicated without transforming the mindset of individuals and society.
