Today (November 7), marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day, senior BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid his respects and offered prayers at the grave of the late President and party founder, Ziaur Rahman.
Fakhrul stated that Ziaur Rahman established the groundwork for Bangladesh's development and advancement. He highlighted that the day serves as a reminder to steer the country towards a truly democratic and prosperous Bangladesh where the rights to vote and justice are safeguarded, emphasizing the BNP's dedication to this objective.
The senior leader credited Ziaur Rahman with several key achievements, abolishing one-party rule and initiating multiparty democracy, guaranteeing press freedom and upholding judicial independence, protecting citizens' rights.
Fakhrul detailed the historical significance of the day, stating that on November 7, 1975, "patriotic soldiers and citizens" thwarted "conspiracies of oppression" and liberated Ziaur Rahman from house arrest, tasking him with leading the country. He described this as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh's development.
The statement also credited Ziaur Rahman with implementing significant reforms in just four years, including, introducing a free-market economy and establishing a judicial council.
Fakhrul concluded that the day is important for all who cherish freedom and seek democracy, as Ziaur Rahman "laid the very foundation upon which Bangladesh's progress is built today."
When asked about Jamaat-e-Islami's suggestion regarding the July Charter, Fakhrul referred to the BNP's official stance released in the previous day's meeting and press release.
