The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organized a large victory rally and mass meeting in Nageshwari Kurigram on Wednesday to mark the second anniversary of the July mass uprising.
Under the banner "We will build the country with the spirit of July, Bangladesh first," thousands of leaders and activists from the upazila and municipal BNP branches marched through key city roads before gathering at the Upazila Muktomancha.
Chaired by Upazila BNP Convener Golam Rasul Raja the meeting featured prominent speakers including Kurigram District BNP member Bazlur Rashid and Central DAB Joint Secretary General Dr. Yunus Ali.
Speakers highlighted August 5 as the historic day the fascist regime fell and Sheikh Hasina fled the country. They emphasized the crucial sacrifices BNP activists made during the mass uprising and pushed back against attempts by other political factions to claim sole credit for the movement. Reaffirming their commitment to the public, the leaders pledged to uphold democratic rights and citizen welfare under the guidance of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
During the rally BNP leaders also criticized Jamaat-e-Islami accusing the party of lobbying to appoint Awami League loyalists to leadership positions in local educational institutions.
