BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed his optimism that the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, will return to Bangladesh by November.
While speaking to journalists in Gulshan on Friday, Salahuddin said the exact date would be known "very soon." He confirmed that Tarique Rahman intends to participate in the upcoming national election, though his specific constituency will be decided later.
Regarding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Salahuddin stated the party hopes she will contest the election, with her decision dependent on her health condition.
In preparation for the polls, the BNP is planning to greenlight candidates for 200 constituencies within this month.
On the matter of forming an alliance with the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP), Salahuddin confirmed that discussions are ongoing but formal talks have not yet taken place. He also expressed concern that the recently amended RPO (Representation of the People Order) might discourage smaller parties from forming alliances.
