Independent candidate Arifur Rahman Dolan is campaigning from village to village in Faridpur-1, seeking votes with the ship symbol.
Dolan says he is contesting the election to ensure public safety, build a corruption-free society, and stop tender rigging and harassment through false cases. He has called on voters to support him with their votes and blessings.
Journalist Arifur Rahman Dolan also contested the last national election as an independent candidate, where he received around 86,000 votes.
Faridpur-1 constituency includes Boalmari, Madhukhali and Alfadanga upazilas and has nearly five lakh voters. Alongside Dolan, two other independent candidates are contesting the seat, in addition to candidates from BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
While major political parties are focusing on rallies and public meetings, Dolan is taking a different approach. He is visiting villages, tea stalls, local markets and narrow alleys to meet voters directly. Many local residents have responded positively to his door-to-door campaign.
On Thursday, Dolan visited several villages and markets in Ruppat Union of Boalmari upazila from noon until evening.
On the same day, BNP candidate Khandaker Nasirul Islam campaigned in Alfadanga upazila headquarters with the sheaf of paddy symbol, while Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Ilias Molla sought votes in different areas of Boalmari Sadar using his election symbol.
Speaking about his campaign style, Dolan said he does not want to organise large rallies or meetings. “I prefer to go from door to door to seek people’s votes and prayers. That is why I am on the streets from morning till night,” he said.
He added that he wants to protect the dignity of the people of the constituency and ensure that no one becomes a victim of harassment or false cases.
Commenting on the overall election environment, Dolan said the situation is mixed. He alleged that some candidates from major parties are not fully following Election Commission rules and are trying to intimidate voters. He expressed hope that election officials would take these issues seriously and ensure a fair poll.
