Agitated teachers at Chatmohar Women’s College in Pabna locked the Principal’s office on Tuesday afternoon, protesting the extension of Principal Sharif Mahmud Sarkar Sanju’s term. The 28 aggrieved teachers have also petitioned the National University Vice-Chancellor to cancel the extension.
The dispute stems from a three-month extension granted to the Principal by National University authorities, effective until April 30, 2026. While the Principal claims the extension is legal and has threatened legal action against the protesters, teachers allege the process was handled "secretly" and without stakeholder consultation.
The protesting faculty members argue that at least 15 senior teachers are eligible for the post. They accuse the current Principal of "arbitrariness" and demand the position be handed over to a senior staff member.
Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Musa Naser Chowdhury confirmed receiving the official letter extending the Principal’s tenure by 90 days.
However, the ongoing unrest has raised concerns among parents and residents regarding the quality of education and the smooth conduct of upcoming examinations.
