


A mobile court in Bagerhat's Morelganj upazila has sentenced four individuals including a woman, to varying prison terms and fines for drug dealing and consumption.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Habibullah handed down the verdicts on Monday evening.
The convicts are Jasmine Akhter of Hoglapasha village, who received a six-month sentence alongside Mehedi Hasan Sajib, Abdur Rahman and Siraj Sheikh who were each sentenced to two months in prison. In addition to their respective jail terms and the court fined each offender Tk 1,000.
According to the executive magistrate, a team from the District Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) conducted targeted raids across Morelganj municipality and Hoglapasha union. The four individuals were caught red-handed with narcotics and immediately presented before the mobile court.
After all the accused confessed to their crimes during the hearing, the court delivered the sentences. Following the verdict, police formally took them into custody and sent them to jail on Monday night.
