An anti-drug awareness discussion was held at Sadarpur in Faridpur to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and to foster a drug-free society. Organized by the Department of Narcotics Control, Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mazharul Islam called upon students during the event to engage in creative activities rather than drugs.

The meeting took place on Tuesday (August 11) at 1:00 PM at Bishwa Zaker Manzil Government High School, where a large number of students participated. Deputy Commissioner Mazharul Islam and Shirin Akter, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, discussed the harmful physical, social, and familial consequences of drug addiction and shared guidance on staying away from drugs.

Addressing the audience, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that drugs do not merely ruin an individual's life, but also devastate entire families and communities. Drug abuse hampers a student's education and normal life while throwing their future into uncertainty, making anti-drug awareness essential right from student life.

Shirin Akter, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, noted that a section of teenagers and youths currently face risks due to temptations, bad company, and the availability of drugs. She stressed that alongside heightened parental supervision, teachers must play a vital role in protecting students, while law enforcement agencies and all sections of society need to work together to eradicate the issue.

Speakers at the meeting encouraged students to set clear life goals and remain focused on their studies. They urged youth to distance themselves from crime and antisocial activities, and instead participate in sports, cultural events, reading, and creative pursuits.

The speakers also answered various questions from the students, providing advice on how to seek help if anyone they know becomes involved with drugs.

Among others present at the event were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mintu Biswas, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharif Shawn, Secondary Education Officer Mofazzal Hossain, and Officer-in-Charge of Sadarpur Police Station Md. Abdul Al Mamun Shah, along with teachers, parents, and law enforcement officials. At the end of the session, students pledged to say no to drugs and contribute to building a drug-free society.
