Mohammad Nuruzzaman Badal, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Sherpur-3 constituency, died early Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mymensingh. He was 58.
Badal, who also served as the Sherpur District Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami, had been suffering from chronic kidney disease for a long time. According to family sources, his condition deteriorated late Tuesday night. He was initially rushed to Sreebardi Upazila Hospital before being moved to Mymensingh, where he breathed his last at approximately 1:30 am.
The news of his death has cast a shadow of grief over the Sreebardi and Jhenaigati upazilas. Despite the political rivalry, BNP candidate Mahmudul Haque Rubel expressed deep condolences, joining leaders from various political parties and local professional groups in mourning the veteran politician.
Badal was a key figure in local politics and was actively campaigning for the Sherpur-3 seat in the 2026 National Parliament Election.
