Abdul Awal Mintu, BNP-nominated candidate for the Feni-3 constituency, has said elections are essential to restore stability and improve the country’s overall situation amid a worsening law and order environment.
He made the remarks while speaking with journalists at Dulamiya Cotton Mills Hallroom in Daganbhuiyan on Wednesday (January 21) at 11:00 am.
Mintu said the deteriorating law and order situation poses a serious threat to people’s lives, property and security. “In the interest of the country, democracy and development, elections are crucial to change this situation,” he said.
He stressed that no election can be credible without active public participation. To ensure a free, fair and impartial election, he said the Election Commission, administration, law enforcement agencies, media and political parties must all act neutrally.
Responding to questions about illegal weapons, Mintu said their recovery is the government’s responsibility. He warned that the presence of illegal arms could disrupt free campaigning and undermine the electoral process. He urged the authorities to identify those involved in possessing, stockpiling or trading illegal weapons and bring them under the law.
Concluding his remarks, Mintu called on citizens to unite in the struggle for democracy, voting rights and justice. He also urged voters to participate actively in the 13th National Parliament election to ensure a vibrant and meaningful poll.
Journalists from various print and electronic media outlets in Daganbhuiyan Upazila attended the event.
