Mohammad Sujon, a rickshaw-puller who gained widespread recognition for his iconic salute during last year's July uprising in Dhaka, has officially entered the political arena. Sujon purchased a nomination form from the National Citizen Party (NCP) to contest the upcoming national parliamentary elections for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
The nomination form was handed over to him around 6:30 PM at the NCP's central office in Dhaka's Bangla Motor area by NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary and Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara.
Sujon, originally from Munshiganj's Sreenagar upazila but a resident of Dhaka's Kamrangirchar since childhood, justified his choice of constituency by stating his deep connection to the protest movement. He mentioned spending the entirety of the July uprising in the Dhaka University and Shahbagh areas, standing in solidarity with the protesters. He expressed confidence that the students, whom he considers his "brothers and sisters," will vote for him and ensure his victory.
Emphasizing his outsider status, Sujon highlighted that he has "no political backing" and is an "ordinary person." He pledged that if elected, his focus would be on working for the people.
