The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued a statement on Sunday expressing sincere regret for the severe traffic congestion that paralyzed parts of the capital.

The chaos was attributed to multiple organizations simultaneously launching demonstrations on key roads.

The protests, primarily concentrated near the National Press Club, involved various groups demanding government benefits and jobs: The Ebtedayi Madrasa Teachers’ Unity Forum demanded MPO scheme inclusion for primary-level madrasa teachers, MPO benefits for schools for persons with disabilities, and MPO inclusion for all recognized but non-MPO educational institutions.

Graduates with disabilities and candidates who passed the 43rd BCS exam demanded recruitment to non-cadre positions.

The DMP acknowledged that the traffic disruption was intensified by these unforeseen circumstances, causing significant public suffering, but affirmed that police were making every effort to maintain traffic flow.
