Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has issued an urgent directive for the quick purchase of a sufficient number of body-worn cameras for law enforcement agencies.
This measure is intended to ensure transparency, security, and peace during the upcoming national election, scheduled for February 2026.
The Chief Adviser emphasized that all preparations for a "free, fair, and peaceful election" must be completed in the quickest possible time to build voter confidence in a conducive and safe environment.
He specifically instructed that the procurement and necessary training programs for the cameras must be completed by December 2025 to effectively prevent violence and undesirable situations during the election period. Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury noted that the new cameras will enable centralized monitoring of polling centers, as well as live monitoring from every police station and the office of the District Superintendent of Police (SP).
Special Assistant Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb confirmed that preliminary training for police personnel has already begun using the currently available stock of body-worn cameras. Further district-wide training will commence upon the arrival of the new equipment.
The directive aims to strengthen law enforcement capacity and create a monitoring structure that "will leave no room for anyone to worsen the situation," reinforcing the CA's commitment to election integrity.
