The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that the ongoing mild to moderate heatwave may expand to more areas in the coming days.
According to a five-day (120-hour) forecast issued on Sunday evening (April 12), the heatwave currently affecting Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Pabna and Sirajganj districts, along with the entire Khulna division, is expected to persist and spread.
Daytime temperatures may rise slightly over the next two days, while night temperatures could increase by 1–2°C.
Despite the heatwave, some regions may see temporary relief. On Monday (April 13), parts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience gusty winds, rain or thundershowers.
From April 14 to 16, rain is likely to continue in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. On April 16, rainfall may also occur in parts of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.
The BMD said daytime temperatures may begin to fall slightly from April 14.
In Dhaka, winds are currently blowing from the south or southwest at 10–15 km/h. On Sunday evening, humidity stood at 29%, indicating dry conditions.
The department said there is no major change expected in overall weather conditions over the next five days.
The heatwave may cause discomfort, especially in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions. However, expected rainfall in Sylhet and Mymensingh could provide some relief and benefit agricultural activities.
Further updates or warnings may be issued depending on changing weather conditions.
