The Bangladesh government has welcomed the recent initiation of peace talks between the United States and Iran, describing the move as a "positive development" for global stability.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam warned that a failure to reach a diplomatic resolution would have severe global consequences. "Every country will be affected economically and socially if this conflict escalates further" she stated, emphasizing that dialogue is the only way to protect innocent civilians and the global economy.
The State Minister confirmed the tragic deaths of eight Bangladeshi nationals in the Middle East due to the ongoing hostilities. Furthermore the Bangladeshi mission in Lebanon has been forced to relocate staff to safer areas following Israeli attacks. The government has pledged to assist any citizens wishing to return home from the war zones.
Regarding maritime concerns the State Minister assured that no Bangladeshi ships are currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. While the ship ‘Bangla Jayatra’ was reportedly intercepted by Iranian authorities recently Tehran has since assured Dhaka that any detained Bangladeshi vessels will be released.
However, new challenges have emerged following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a naval blockade in the Strait.
The Ministry is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the country's energy supply remains uninterrupted despite the regional volatility.
