Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin has said that ensuring security remains the biggest challenge in conducting elections in Bangladesh, despite various administrative, legal, and technological challenges.
Speaking at a workshop for polling officials at the Regional Public Administration Training Centre in Chattogram on Saturday (October 11), the CEC emphasized the need for stronger coordination between the administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure a fair and peaceful election.
“We must work together to organize a credible election,” he said. “We want to create empowered presiding, polling, and returning officers. You are being given full authority—using it properly is your responsibility. Failure to act in time will not be tolerated.”
He further warned that the Election Commission aims to demonstrate the true meaning of the rule of law through this election. “As long as you perform your duties within the law, the Commission will give you full support,” he assured the officials.
Highlighting the importance of coordination, Nasir Uddin said that effective teamwork among presiding officers, returning officers, administrative officials, and law enforcement agencies is the key to a successful election.
He also mentioned that the Election Commission has formed a dedicated cell to counter misinformation and AI-based propaganda on social media, although more public awareness about its activities is still needed.
The event was chaired by Senior District Election Officer Mohammad Bashir Ahmed. Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Additional Secretary (EC Secretariat) K. M. Ali Newaz, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Zia Uddin, DIG (Chattogram Range) Mohammad Ahsan Habib Palash, UNDP Assistant Resident Representative Anwarul Haque, and CBTIEP Project Director Mohammad Mostafa Hasan attended as special guests.
